Bravery in a Stormy Sea

Overview of the story

During the occupation of Karpathos by the Italians, the Germans and, later, the British, the only practical way to take much-needed food supplies from the south of the island to the north was by boat from Pigadia to Diafani. Michalis Papavassilis was a crew member on one of the small rowing boats undertaking this heroic work. He describes one particlar journey on a fearful January night in 1945.
